Dr. Zakes Motene

MBCHB

Dr Zakes hails from the Royal Bafokeng Nation. He grew up in the village of Chaneng on the foothills of the Pilanesburg mountain range. The Sun City Resort and the Pilanesburg National occupy part of their family ancestral lands. 

 

He matriculated at HF Tlou High School in Tlhabane, Rustenburg and obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBCHB) degree from the Medical University of Southern Africa (MEDUNSA) now incorporated into the new Sefako Makhatho Health Sciences University in 2001. 

 

During his student days, he participated in a wide range of character building activities including Sports, Arts and Culture, Choral Music and toured widely with the Medunsa Drama and Arts Society as a playwright/actor including annual performances at the Grahamstown Arts Festival. 

 

He was also part of the writer’s guild that produced “The Voice” Student newspaper. In 2009, his article titled “A fight for the Public Service” received rave reviews and was featured in several local and international newspapers with The Times, running it as a feature over 2 days.

 

He served as a Medical Doctor in both public and private health care arenas, until he joined the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) in 2009. He earned his military stripes through a United Nations (UN) deployment to the DRC ending in April 2010, in time for the FIFA Soccer World Cup, and served as Sectoral Commander for the North West Province under the Presidential Medial Unit (PMU). 

 

Zakes is a recipient of the Nelson Mandela medal for outstanding service rendered to the departed Hero of the world. He wrote a moving tribute poem titled: “Go wele Mokaloba/A colossus has fallen” that has been translated into all South African languages. He is an author of the best-selling book “The Journey – Ellis Park Stampede, a survivor’s story”. 

 

He cut his teeth in business consulting for local and International companies since 2014. Realizing the scope and potential, he started working with Professionals as the elusive solution to South Africa’s economic woes. 

 

Zakes is most passionate about contributing to the economic participation of the majority in SA and turning around the fortunes of Africa. He is the Founder of Tsoga Afrika Investment Holdings with interests in Retail, Agriculture, Construction and Property Development, Financial Sector through an Insurance Brokerage and a FINTECH Company called The People’s Fund (TPF). 

 

Zakes firmly believes in Cooperative Economics and is a member of Sakhisizwe Property Stokvel, Young Women in Business Network (YWBN), Caladrius Primary Investment Cooperative. He is a Director in a number of local and international companies.
